Your Whakaaro Kaimahi Survey

As part of Unitec’s ongoing commitment to creating a great work environment we encourage all kaimahi (employees) to participate in Your Whakaaro.

Your Whakaaro is an interim kaimahi initiative started in 2024 and rolled out across Rohe 1 (Region 1) which provides kaimahi with the opportunity to share their experiences and feedback. This enables us to gain valuable insights into our current work environment – what is working well and what we can improve.

Kaimahi feedback from surveys such as this plays a big role in shaping our workplace strategies and initiatives.

What you need to know:

  • Kaimahi were invited to share their feedback from 10 June – 27 June 2024.
  • All permanent and fixed term kaimahi who started prior to 8 May 2024 were invited to participate.
  • Your responses are confidential. Your feedback will be treated as a taonga (treasure), no identifying information will be shared.
  • We shared results, including themes identified through open-ended feedback, with kaimahi in July 2024.  We prioritised taking meaningful action in response to feedback which is within our current sphere of control.
  • Leaders with six or more team members who participated in the survey receive a team report. They use this to work alongside their teams to create team action plans addressing any feedback within the team’s influence.

Your Whakaaro Action Plan 2025

The results of the Your Whakaaro Kaimahi Survey in 2024 were analysed and further discussion took place with kaimahi at Tū Arotake in 2024 and on campus workshops.  Through this process we were able to identify priority action areas and group them under five key themes of:

  • Connection
  • Facilities
  • Wellbeing
  • Recognition & Remuneration
  • Communication

These were developed into the Your Whakaaro Action Plan for Quarter 4, 2024 and 2025. The plan commits Senior Leadership Team to deliver initiatives helping to build a positive, inclusive and responsive working environment.

Please note, we received a wide range of feedback. Priority areas have been identified based on issues raised by a high number of kaimahi.  In some areas, such as carparking, we were limited in our ability to make changes due to contractual commitments in place over the period of the plan.
