Assessment Concession

From time to time a student may not be able to complete an item of assessment (including an exam) due to circumstances beyond their immediate control. To ensure that the student’s’ academic progress is not impacted by these circumstances, they can apply for an Assessment Concession.

Wherever possible MIT & Unitec prefers that students complete their summative assessments. To ensure that all the learning outcomes are met and they have achieved all of the requirements of the course. This is usually achieved with the help of the following:

  • An extension of time to complete an assessment (see Student Regulations section 11.5.3 – 11.5.8)
  • An opportunity for further assessment or resubmission (see Student Regulations section 11.13)
  • Assessment assistance (see Student Regulations sections 11.5.9 – 11.5.13)

When the above are not able to be employed then other resolution methods may be considered such as:

  • Aegrotat pass (see Student Regulations section 12.7)
  • Withdrawal from course (see Student Regulations section 6)
  • Other adjustments as approved by the delegated authority.

What does the student see?

A Unitec webpage is about Assessment Concessions and how to apply. It is useful to familiarise yourself with this webpage.

The Assessment Concession webpage provides students with clear guidance to ensure that they understand the best request to make that meets their circumstances and the specifics of the evidence that they must provide to support their request. A link to this webpage should be available in student information via Canvas/Moodle course pages.

Students download a writable PDF Application for Assessment Concession form that is applicable to the type of concession that they are requesting. The application form allows the student to choose the type of assessment concession that they are requesting and prompts them to provide the required evidence to support their application. The student completes the form and emails it directly to the designated contact along with any required evidence for consideration. A list of designated contacts is provided on the webpage
