Code of Conduct & Speak Up

Unitec Code of Conduct: Ngā Tikanga Whakahaere

Our Code of Conduct is a core document for Unitec, sitting alongside and reflecting our partnership and values, Te Noho Kotahitanga, which have also been woven throughout the Code with Ngākau Mahaki – Respect as the central pou from which all else follows.

Our Code of Conduct is a guide for all staff to ensure we are clear about what it means to be part of Unitec and our responsibility to ourselves and to each other. It is not meant to be a catch-all which covers every single situation you will encounter, but is designed to be a practical tool to help you do the right thing when making decisions each day.

Please take the time to familiarise yourself with our Code of Conduct and understand your role in creating the environment where we can all flourish.

Speak Up Process

Our Unitec Code of Conduct: Ngā Tikanga Whakahaere makes explicit our commitment to creating and sustaining an environment free from bullying, harassment, discrimination and other poor behaviours. Key to living this commitment is creating a safe environment where people can confidently ‘Speak up’ about any concerns knowing they will be treated respectfully and fairly.

However, speaking up and challenging inappropriate behaviour takes courage and is not always an easy thing to do.

A Speak Up Resource has been developed to help us all identify and address unacceptable behaviour. This resource will help you to:

  • Clarify the behaviour you’re experiencing or witnessing
  • Provide you with some tools to confidently identify the behaviour
  • Gives you options and confidence in how to take your concern forward and what you can expect when you do so
