It’s important that all our students have a positive experience while they study with us. We have a particular duty of care to our international students who are away from their homes and their usual support networks. It’s our job to help them stay safe, provide them with useful information and guidance, and ensure they are properly cared for while in New Zealand.
All New Zealand educational providers are required to follow the International Code of Practice. We are an approved signatory to this Code with the Ministry of Education and NZQA, and it is an element which may be considered as part of next week’s EER process.
All staff must be familiar with the Code of Practice
As your manager will have already discussed with you, it’s really important that every staff member is familiar with the basics of the International Code of Practice – what our responsibilities are and where to access a copy.
Even if you’re not in a role that doesn’t have any direct interaction with our International students – you still need to have a basic understanding.
Every team manager has been tasked this week with ensuring that you do the simple three-step process to get up to speed on what the Code means and why it’s important. It will take under 20 minutes so please make sure you do this.

- Download a copy of the Education (Pastoral Care of International Students) Code of Practice 2016 so you know where to find it
Once you’ve done this, please fill-out and submit the training completion registration form.
