Want to learn more about Sustainability and how you can get involved?

Come along to our Sustainability Club – it’s an opportunity to join colleagues who care about their environment and our Unitec community. All staff and students are welcome.

The Club’s emphasis is on championing small but significant changes across our campuses, with a focus on wellness, food for all, smart travel and zero waste.

You can choose how much you want to be involved and the team will keep you up-to-speed through email updates and the monthly meeting agenda. You can also get involved just by keeping your colleagues up-to-date with what’s happening and how they can participate.

Brainstorming new initiatives at a recent Sustainability Club meeting

The group meets on the last Wednesday of every month at the Pūkenga – B177 during lunch time. Come along to our next meeting, this month it’s on Wednesday 2 May (delayed due to ANZAC Day), or send a message to oneplanet@unitec.ac.nz to make sure you get on the mailing list or to highlight any specific ways you’d like to be involved.

The team provides some lunchtime nibbles at the monthly meetings and you’re welcome to bring your lunch with you.

The Club recently initiated the weekly Te Auaunga (Oakley Creek) walks which you can join in at any time, and coming up next will be a campaign to turn our kitchens into sustainable social spaces, as well as a concept to improve and maximise the use of our shuttle service and a nutrition workshop is also in the plan.

Recent Sustainability and Wellness activity focused on the ‘smart travel’ initiative which offered free public transport passes and the ‘Smart travel expo’ which provided special deals on e-bikes and showed you how carpooling can be like speed dating!

The Sustainability Club is co-ordinated by Sustainability Manager, Maja Zidov.
