UPC needs your help: Crockery, cutlery and bread donations

Our UPC team has been dipping into their own pockets to support secondary school UPC students with food for breakfast and lunch, and now they’re appealing to you for help.

Setting our UPC students up for success

Close to 500 year 11-13 students attend UPC courses at both our Mt Albert and Waitākere campuses each week. Some of these young people travel a long way and they often don’t eat before arriving due to the many responsibilities they have at home and school. Our UPC team has been working hard to mitigate some of these challenges, so our ākonga have the best chance of success.

The good news is that the Fonterra KickStart Breakfast in Schools programme is trialling UPC as a ‘school’, which makes sense given 75% of our students come from schools that benefit from breakfast and lunch programmes.

How can you help?

The Fonterra programme and other donors are providing Weetbix, milk and extras such as Marmite and other spreads.

Our UPC team is appealing for staff to consider helping with:

  • Loaves of bread – to be stored in Te Kākatai freezer and used for sandwiches
  • Other easy lunch items that can be stored
  • Crockery and cutlery: bowls, lunch plates, knives and spoons
  • A dishwasher… if anyone is undertaking renovations, please keep UPC in mind if you’re replacing your dishwasher

Please drop your donations to the UPC office in B111. The team would be very grateful for your support. If you have any questions, please contact Andrea Thumath.
