Unitec’s security team has taken ownership of its first fully electric patrol vehicle, replacing the two diesel utes it has operated for several years.
The addition of the Hyundai Kona BEV is a move towards electric vehicles, designed to reduce our carbon footprint.
Unitec’s Fleet and Logistics manager Malcolm Yurak, said, “We’re delighted that we finally have an electric vehicle in the fleet, helping us reduce our carbon footprint and demonstrate that we can operate in a fully sustainable way on campus.
“The Security team was a logical choice for the vehicle as it’s highly visible around campus, and there are charging facilities near to the team’s base at our Mt Albert campus.”
Unitec’s Sustainability and Wellbeing manager Maja Zidov, added, “Upgrading our transport fleet to electric is the latest of Unitec’s sustainability initiatives designed to increase energy efficiency across our campuses.
“Other initiatives include the replacement of traditional tube lights with LED bulbs, the upgrade of our air conditioning system, and the ongoing work around campus consolidation at our Mt Albert site.”
The security patrol vehicle joins Unitec’s fleet of electric bikes and scooters, along with additional bike parking and lockers, designed to encourage staff to use more sustainable modes of transport.
