The Unitec Excellence Awards 2019 – what a celebration!

Andrea Thumath, Unitec Champion

Last week’s awards event was truly a celebration of excellence, contribution and commitment!

Around 500 staff packed into Te Puna to enjoy the presentation of awards and support our finalists and winners as they received their trophies and certificates. Adding to the entertainment, a group waiata, led by our Kaihautū team, was a welcome opportunity for everyone to stretch their legs and their vocal chords as they joined in with the words and actions of Tū Tira Mai.

The ceremony was expertly presented by MC Ioane Fa’avae – Pacific ADL and the Executive Leadership team, who awarded prizes in nine categories.

The hotly contested ‘People’s Choice’ Award went to Malcolm Yurak, whose large support crew arrived wearing #TeamMalcolm stickers on their backs!

The winner of the Unitec Champion Award this year was Andrea Thumath, who received a huge cheer and and beautiful pounamu taonga, crafted by Hohepa Renata from our Maia team.

Following the ceremony everyone enjoyed the lunch, drinks, photobooth and pumping sounds by the ‘world-famous’ band, White Chapel Jak.
