Terri-Ann Berry braves the shave, raising awareness for asbestos-related cancers

Dr Terri-Ann Berry, our Associate Professor in Environmental Engineering and Director of our Environmental Research Solutions Centre (ESRC), has had her hair shaved off by the Coast FM Breakfast team in aid of the Cancer Society.

Terri-Ann braved the morning cold to cut off her long locks to raise awareness and support for victims of malignant mesothelioma cancers, a type of respiratory cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.  Terri-Ann’s research work at Unitec’s ESRC is examining the treatment of asbestos-contaminated waste.

She reckons was about four years’ worth of growth, will be used to create wigs for cancer patients.

Terri-Ann dedicated her hair shave to her friend (and ex-student), Sandrine, who is currently battling pancreatic cancer in the UK.

You can donate to Terri-Ann’s Brave the Shave fundraising campaign here. The campaign will close in early December.

You look awesome Terri-Ann and what a big hearted thing to do. So many of us have been affected or lost a loved one to cancer – so thank you
