Graduate Surveys

Why we do it

Graduate Surveys are conducted to collect information about the conditions of employment and further study of our graduates, and the relevance of our programmes to their employment. These are Key Performance Indicators for programme delivery and are audited and reported upon each year in the publicly available Annual Report.

What it involves

The Surveys occur twice a year, soon after the graduation ceremonies in April and September. We seek to remain consistent in our questions within a ‘wave’, a wave being the results from surveying Semester 1 graduates in September and Semester 2 graduates in April of the following year.

In the coming wave of Surveys, Graduate Profile Outcome (GPO) statements have been added to seek feedback on the programme specific outcomes achieved upon qualification completion in order to support the Consistency Reviews.

Results

Results of Graduate Surveys conducted since 2015 are displayed in the Graduate Surveys Dashboard on Power BI.

An upcoming review

A review of the entire Graduate survey (purpose, content, and process) is underway and should be presented to the Quality Alignment Board mid-2020.

Other graduate surveys

In some contexts specific targeted graduate and employer surveys of graduates may be required to provide programme data and evidence for consistency and 5-year reviews.

The key area that requires input is the Graduate Profile Outcome (GPO) statements. Rather than just copy straight from the programme document, these need to be reviewed and potentially modified so that they are easy to understand for a survey respondent and are clearly stating one skill per statement. Given that programme managers know their programmes best and what key skills their graduate should have, we require programme manages to attempt to draft the GPO statements first and send to tkkinsights@unitec.co.nz who will provide assistance in finalising the statements and overall survey.

Templates are provided to support the development of these surveys:

The linked Management of targeted surveys shows how these type of surveys can be supported.  Once the survey is finalised, this is to be sent to Industry Partners team to build and send out through their Industry & Alumni CRM tool or programme staff can administer the survey.
