Programmes define what we deliver to our students. The programme lifecycle includes processes around developing new programmes, reviewing their design and delivery, making changes to improve outcomes and, and closing programmes when they are no longer required or achieving intended outcomes.
For information about developing new programmes or making changes to existing programmes first read:
- AC 1.0 Academic Development and Approval Policy (July 2024)
- AC 1.1 Academic Development and Approval Procedures
For information regarding programme development or management (excluding the Approval in Principle and Business Case processes), contact Jackie Tims, Lead, Programme Development and Management.
Developing a new programme or making a significant change an existing programme
If you wish to develop a new programme, or make significant changes to an existing programme, you must gain Approval in Principle (AiP) before doing so:
Approval in Principle form – required for any new programmes, or significant changes to existing programmes (note: “programme” includes ANY type of academic delivery)
If Approval in Principle is granted you may also need to provide a Business Case. The need for a business case will be confirmed following consideration of the Approval in Principle application.
Business Case – template (under development)
Any questions regarding the Approval in Principle (AiP) or Business Case stages should be directed to Simon Tries, Director, Te Korowai Kahurangi (stries@unitec.ac.nz)
Approval to make a minor change
Approval in Principle for minor change (i.e., Type 1 changes) require an endorsement from the Head of School and approval from the Director, Schools, and Performance. This is done via an email. The final approval must be sent to Simon Tries, Director, Te Korowai Kahurangi (stries@unitec.ac.nz)
Approval in Principle is NOT required for new or changed Assessment Portfolios.
Following Approval in Principle
Once approval in principle to develop a programme or make changes to an existing programme is granted, Jackie Tims, Lead, Programme Development and Management will contact the Development Lead to commence the programme development phase.
Following development, the new or changed programme will require approval. Approval Deadlines for Development and Improvements are strictly adhered to.
