Approving Grades

Whakaaetanga Aromatawai | Grade Approvals

Approving grades for courses and programmes is a core responsibility of each Te Komiti o ngā Hotaka | Programme Academic Quality Committee (PAQC). To ensure that this process is undertaken with integrity, each PAQCs may formally delegate this responsibility to one or more Rōpū Whakaaetanga Aromatawai | Grade Approval Sub-committees (GAC) who will be granted full powers to approve grades on their behalf.

The purpose of this delegation is to ensure that the right people (the teachers of the courses) are in the room when the decisions are being made. This assures that appropriate knowledge informs and adds value to decision-making for grades approval.

Each GAC is granted authority to approve grades for a defined range of courses on behalf of the PAQC and the decisions of the sub-committee are deemed to be the final decision on the approval of grades. This may include the award of an Administrative Grade.

Grade ratification occurs via a formal GAC meeting. Once ratified, grades are then published and notified to the PAQC.

GACs may also propose the Award of Honours and Senior Scholar Awards and Exclusion from a Course or Programme to the PAQC for approval.

Please note that final grades for a course cannot be posted until all grades are entered. No course will be posted if it has missing grades.

All grades for a course must be made final no later than 15 working days following the end date of the course.
