Exit Awards and Milestone Awards

In some cases students may wish to leave their parent programme of study early and have their achievement recognised through the award of an alternative qualification. This is known as an exit award.

A milestone award that recognises achievement at a certain point within their larger programme of study and is often associated with professional accreditation requirements for continuation into practicum or practice.

In all cases, the availability of these additional awards will be noted in the Programme Regulations for the parent programme.

Exit Award

From time to time a student may, for a variety of reasons, wish to exit the Programme in which they are currently enrolled (Parent) before they have completed it. For some of these students there may be an option for them to be awarded a different Programme that recognises their study achievement in their original Programme up to the point that they chose to exit (Child) . 

To be awarded an approved an Exit Award, a student must have:

• accumulated the number and level of Credits described in the regulations of that Qualification; and
• lodged a completed application to be awarded the Milestone Award with the Graduation Office; and
• as part of the application, declared that he or she does not currently intend to enrol or continue in the study of the Qualification.

An exit award will not be awarded to any Student who has, at the time of application for the award or at the time of the award, enrolled in future semesters for any Course which is part of the Qualification.

Milestone Award

A Milestone Award is a Qualification that may be awarded to a Student prior to the Student having completed the Programme he or she is currently enrolled in and which he or she intends to complete.

They are generally related to professional accreditation requirements and may be required by a student prior to them being able to engage in  practice based learning that forms part of their main programme.

To be awarded an approved Milestone Award, a student must have:

• accumulated the number and level of Credits described in the regulations of that Qualification; and
• lodged a completed application to be awarded the Milestone Award with the Graduation Office.

Any Milestone award is required to be set up in Peoplesoft to allow for this award to be offered.
