Te Puna becomes a barbershop… for a good cause

Chris King helping out with Dave Hicks’ ‘Shave for a Cure’ campaign

Dave Hicks, Bridgepoint Academic Programme Manager, shaved off his ‘long locks’ for the Shave for a Cure campaign this week, with assistance from Chris King, Head of Bridgepoint.

Shave for a Cure is Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand’s signature fundraising event, involving people shaving their locks in a bid to help the six Kiwis diagnosed each day with a blood cancer or related condition.

“I decided to do this crazy thing for an amazing cause. Many people are affected by cancer and I’m no exception. I have lost close friends, a grandma I never knew, and I went through my own cancer scare 13 years ago” said Dave.

The choice to commit to raising some cash to support research towards curing leukaemia and blood cancer was an easy one for Dave.

“Experiencing cancer is hard. I am just cutting my hair off – it’s easy. I thought that making a bit of spectacle of it, by doing it in Te Puna, might help with my fund raising. My head is definitely colder now, but I think I’ll keep my hair short for a while!”

If you’d like to support Dave, his fundraising page will remain open for a few weeks.

I hope you raised loads of cash! Cancer is a shitty disease and finding a cure can’t come soon enough. Thank you.
