Tertiary Education Commission presented Government proposals for vocational education and training reform on campus at MIT and Unitec this week.
The proposals are for:
- A redesigned Institute of Technology and Polytechnic (ITP) network that retains access to ITP provision in regions through a combination of stand-alone and federation ITPs
- Options for an industry-led system for standards-setting and industry training
- Changes to vocational education funding from 2026 to better support the reformed system.
Before her presentation, Gillian Dudgeon, TEC’s Deputy Chief Executive – Delivery acknowledged the change and uncertainty kaimahi have been through in recent years and expressed her appreciation for the work we do with learners.
The content outlined the proposals for consultation, an estimated timeline for change if they were adopted and how kaimahi can make submissions, before a Q & A session.
For those who missed out or who would like to view it again, a regional public webinar will be run for Auckland on Friday 30 August from 2pm to 3 pm. You can register for this session HERE!
