Unitec Building for Unitec
Senior Leadership Team (SLT) of MIT and Unitec has made a submission on Government proposals for reform of Vocational Education and Training.
It includes the team’s perspective on the proposals based on what it believes is best for vocational education and training in Tāmaki Makaurau, as the group responsible for day-to-day operations of the providers, academic delivery as well as maintaining key relationships with iwi, community and industry.
In response to Government’s reform proposals, SLT undertook to share the consultation information widely with kaimahi. In addition to the presentation given by Tertiary Education Commission, the team held its own on campus deep dive workshops with kaimahi to help them gain further insights into the proposals, understand their potential implications and encouraged them to make their own submissions.
Ākonga and external stakeholders have also had an opportunity to view what is proposed, hold their own discussions and receive information on how to submit.
In preparing this submission, SLT has taken into consideration not only its own perspectives but also those of staff and stakeholders’ feedback given through:
• Five kaimahi workshops (over 100 participants)

• An anonymised kaimahi survey (236 responses – and submitted separately)
• Engagement with external stakeholders through our marketing consultants Kantar (over 300 participants)
SLT does not intend to speak on behalf of each and every kaimahi of our divisions or other stakeholders. The team recognises there exist a diversity of views on the proposals. As such, all kaimahi and others have been encouraged to submit their views as individuals and / or teams.
