Student Advocate

The Student Advocate is here to support students who have tried to resolve their issues themselves but are needing further assistance.

The Student Advocate can support students with:

  • Understanding Unitec policy and procedures.
  • Making a formal complaint.
  • Resolving experiences of being harassed, bullied or are feeling unsafe.
  • Wanting support during a disciplinary process.
  • Seeking information or referral about non-academic issues affecting their studies like employment and tenancy.

Location (By appointment only):

  • Mt Albert campus
    Monday to Wednesday 9.00am – 3.00pm
  • Waitakere campus
    Thursday 9.00am – 3.00pm
  • Online meeting
    Monday to Friday 9.00am – 3.00pm

Student Support:

The Student Support Advisors can support with:

  • Financial support, literacy & referrals
    Food cupboard including toiletries & period products
    Sustainable period support (subject to availability)
  • Loaning laptops (subject to availability)
  • Student Accommodation (pastoral care for students staying at Campus Waterview)
    Informal concerns or complaints
    Referrals to internal & external support
    Can talk to students about anything affecting their studies (both on-campus & off [personal issues not requiring counselling])

  • Waitākere campus

Scholarships & Mentoring Team: 

The Scholarships & Mentoring team manages scholarships and awards available to undergraduate, diploma and certificate level students at Unitec. This includes both Unitec and externally funded scholarships and awards. The team support students and staff with:

  • information about scholarships and awards and how to apply for them
  • scholarships eligibility checks and appeals processes
  • developing new scholarships with external partners to increase industry-related mentoring opportunities for Unitec students
  • contributing to existing mentoring programmes at Unitec and developing mentoring opportunities and programmes for scholarship recipients.
