Māori Micro-Credential for Unitec Kaimahi

We’re excited to offer a special opportunity for kaimahi interested in developing their understanding of Tikanga Māori. This micro-credential provides practical knowledge to help you navigate cultural contexts with confidence and respect.

Taumata Tu: Tikanga 

This Level 5, 10-credit micro-credential is designed specifically for our Unitec whānau.

Key Dates

  • Starts: 24 June 2025
  • Finishes: 10 August 2025 (7 weeks)

Weekly Schedule

  • Tuesdays: 6:00pm – 8:00pm (TEAMS online class)
  • Thursdays: 11:30am – 12:30pm (TEAMS online tutorial/drop-in)

One-Day Wānanga

  • Saturday, 2 August: 10:00am – 3:00pm

What You’ll Learn

This micro-credential will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of Māori cultural practices, values, and protocols. The knowledge and skills you gain will help you foster cultural awareness and build respectful relationships both personally and professionally.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:

  • Identify and deliver karakia in relevant contexts
  • Develop and present mihi to specific audiences
  • Identify and deliver waiata in relevant contexts

Assessment

This course uses achievement-based assessment. To successfully complete the micro-credential, you’ll need to:

  • Complete all assessment activities
  • Achieve all learning outcomes

Who Can Apply

  • Open to Unitec kaimahi who are Aotearoa, New Zealand citizens and permanent residents
  • Limited spaces available
