Student Net Promoter Score continues to build on strong results

The Unitec | Te Pūkenga key indicator of student engagement and satisfaction, the Student Net Promoter Score (NPS), has built on last semester’s strong result to score its highest ever this semester, with +57 for new students and +37 for returning students.

Matching the increased NPS, satisfaction across almost every measured aspect also significantly improved, especially quality of teaching, and ease of getting help and support.

All schools received a good NPS from returning students this semester, with Bridgepoint and Community Studies the highest at 61 and 62 respectively followed closely by Trades and Services at 57.

Both Māori and Pacific NPS have followed the overall trend of reaching new highs, with Māori rising from 24 to 42, and Pacific from 31 to 58.

All other priority groups have also hit new highs; under 25s rose from 18 to 37, international from 37 to 40 and disability from 27 to 38.

“It is incredibly satisfying that our student NPS result is now well above the tertiary education benchmark,” says Martin Carroll, Operational Lead – Te Pūkenga Unitec and MIT.

“This is a concrete measure of the efforts all our kaimahi have done to ensure ākonga have a well-supported and meaningful learning experience.”

This is reflected in the student comments:

Unitec is a place of community, friendship and pretty much home. The vibes are on, and everything about it just keeps getting better. If you value family and community this is the place to study!

“Because the support and understanding I’ve received from my lecturers is amazing. I am a solo mum of 3 under 6. I do not come to most classes, but I watch the echo360 classes and they’re very understanding about it. They don’t mind as long as I’m doing the work and passing, which I am.”

“Because I felt like Unitec has really helped me push myself past my limits, expand my knowledge and support me in my learning.”

“I feel they help support Māori student in every aspect of learning.”

“All the staff I have interacted with are absolutely amazing and friendly people, the campus is also packed with everything you need.”

“The institution not only offers top-notch education but also provides a unique cultural experience.”

Annette Pitovao, Director – Student Success, says she is delighted with the results: “In 2018 the Student NPS was -3 overall and now it’s reached +37 overall, which is a substantial positive shift in focus, effort and outcomes to build continuous improvements. Most of our learners know exactly what works for them on their learning journey so we must keep trying to meet their requirements to ensure high engagement which in turn makes Unitec a great place to study. The not-so-secret sauce is being authentic, listening carefully and providing options. Our communities deserve and demand only the best from us, so Student NPS confirms we’re getting more things right.”
