Student Central gives back to the community

The Student Central team recently volunteered at ‘Eat My Lunch’. Below is their account of the experience, written by Fatin Elier and Pa Tere from Student Central…

“As our end of the year team building and venturing into the new year with a new team, we wanted to challenge ourselves, but at the same time do something that was giving back to the community.

We decided to dedicate our time preparing lunches for students at an organisation which has been operating since 2015 called ‘Eat my lunch’.

Prepping for a big day of lunch-making

Starting at 6am, we needed to be ready and briefed on what was expected of us.

Essential attire (Hairnet, apron, gloves) and clear instructions were given for what needed to be done.  This made such a great impression on us and we were ready to get started.

We managed to create a system to allow us to work as a team, and allow everything to flow smoothly.

It was an activity we thoroughly enjoyed as a team, where we were able to bond and show off our competitive skills, and as result we were the fastest team to complete our tasks (round of applause please)!

An efficient organisation

It is evident why this business has been so successful as their staff are very helpful and efficient.

They have processes in place with different stations set up, they had everything flowing from, making sandwiches, cutting, and then packaging.

As a token of their appreciation they prepared a hot drink for everyone at the end of the shift.

It was a new experience of learning more about our community and what more we can contribute.  We learned that students and families are still struggling and with the cost of living increasing daily, the work of this organisation helps a lot.

A rewarding experience

We were able to network and make connections with others who were also there volunteering their time and representing their work place.

We would really like to encourage everyone to try and give this a go, as it is not only enjoyable but also rewarding.

You can find more information on the organisation on the below link.  If you don’t have the opportunity to offer your time, you can also make a kind donation also.”
