STEPtember: there can only be one winning team

We’ve had a great response to the STEPtember challenge this year, with 33 staff and student teams signing up.

At the two-week point, our teams are battling it out for top spot, recording some impressive step tallies. In the lead is the ‘UPCREAC’ team of Blair Sorensen, Renee Peeni, Debbie Loots and Anaru Panagi, with 942,969 steps! And in the individual stakes, Paula Gerrard – Academic Administrator, is out in front, with 369,046 steps – wow!

Across all teams, we’ve raised $1,875.40 so far, to support people living with cerebral palsy in New Zealand.

If you’re taking part and you haven’t received a pedometer, please get in touch with the Wellbeing team. Don’t forget to make use of the STEPtember app! It will help you keep track of your steps on the go, and has lots of great fundraising tips to help grow your tally at the click of a button (or tap of a screen). Send an email, post on your social media, or even send a good old SMS. Try them out today – to access the app, download it from your App Store (iphone) or Google Play Store (android).

Paula Gerrard has recorded the most steps, two weeks into the STEPtember challenge.

While you’re at work, there are plenty of ways you can increase your steps:

  1. Take the stairs whenever you can.
  2. Hold ‘walking meetings’. You’ll be amazed at how much ground you’ll cover. Our ELT team has been pounding the pavements during some of their meetings.
  3. Try out a relaxing walk over lunchtime, using this ‘self guided map’ that’ll take you along Te Auaunga creek (Oakley creek).

Let’s keep the momentum going and raise those steps and fundraising tallies!

Remember, the staff team with the most steps at the end of STEPtember will win a team morning tea shout, thanks to the Wellbeing team.
