Results of Te Pūkenga survey: Aromātai Kaimahi

Te Pūkenga has shared a summary of the results of the latest Aromātai Kaimahi, which surveyed staff from all subsidiaries across Aotearoa. This survey was completed in May 2021, following the first survey that was conducted in November 2020. The brief report shares some key findings, comparing the results of the two surveys.

Key points from the report

Across Aotearoa:

For staff of the subsidiaries throughout New Zealand, there have been some increases and decreases across the different questions from 2020 to 2021.  Improved results were seen overall in ‘I feel adequately supported during this period of change’ and ‘I understand the processes and timelines for the changes at Te Pūkenga’.  There was a reduction in sentiment in the question relating to ‘I understand how the Te Pūkenga changes will impact on me and my role’. The team at Te Pūkenga are particularly interested in addressing the questions where more staff answered ‘don’t know’, and they are looking at ways to clear up any confusion or a lack of knowledge.

At Unitec:

Our results at Unitec have declined since the first survey except for a positive increase in the question around ‘I understand the processes and timelines for changes at Te Pukenga’.  From the findings, we are looking into ways we can address the concerns raised, such as more communication and engagement with the changes ahead of us.

Isn’t there a risk that focusing on changes from previous scores misses the point that in many questions the scores are very low, to begin with? Change happens best when the people who need to “change” are on board with the change. Do the early or recent scores convey this?
