Join us for the Peace Hīkoi on Tuesday 18 March, as we commemorate the 6th anniversary of the Christchurch Mosques attack. This solemn occasion honors the memory of the 51 lives lost and the 40 individuals injured, while fostering a spirit of unity and peace.
Starting at 10:30am, join us at the Events Kitchen in Te Puna to create your own peace banner or placard. Enjoy light refreshments, background music, and engaging conversations on the concept of peace – what it means to you, to Unitec, and to the world.
At 12:00pm, we will gather the banners and commence our Hīkoi. Following a Karakia and Waiata, we will proceed to He Maumaharatanga, the Unitec Memorial Grove, where an Olive Tree serves as a poignant symbol of remembrance.
Around the Olive Tree, representatives from various religious communities will offer readings and prayers. The event will conclude just before 1 pm, allowing time for reflection and the opportunity to visit other memorial trees in He Maumaharatanga.
Facilitated by the Unitec Spirituality Oversight, Advocacy, and Reference Group (SOAR), this event seeks to honor the past while promoting peace and understanding for the future.
Everyone’s Welcome!
