Our Security team

A reminder of our Security team members and duties:

The core Security team:

  • Albert Beeming – Security Manager
  • Andrea Lamont – Security Administrator
  • Lee Stokes – Security Team Leader
  • Michael Dennison – Security Team Leader
  • Clive Webster – Security Team Leader

What does the team do around campus?

Our Security duties include patrols around the campus, unlocking buildings, incident attendance, CCTV monitoring, key management and ensuring the safety of our kaimahi, ākonga and property.

Practical tips to keep yourself safe

As our kaitiaki on campus, we encourage everyone to take responsibility for keeping themselves and their belongings safe and secure.

  • Take responsibility for your own safety, and don’t put yourself at risk.
  • On-campus security escorts are available upon request. Please call half an hour before required on 021 610 877.
  • Consider your actions and how they would affect others e.g., please don’t wedge controlled doors open as this allows free access to unauthorised persons, putting everyone at risk.
  • Keep safe at night: If you plan to work late, move your car closer to your office when spaces become available. And if walking, keep your cell phone handy and stick to well-lit areas where possible.
  • You can find great resources on our Unitec website Safety and Security page, including our Emergency Procedures. The NZ Police also have some excellent resources on their website.

On-campus security incidents

  • Our Security team is available 24 hours, seven days a week to help.
  • If you experience or see an incident, please contact Security on 021 610 877 and provide as much detail as possible.
  • If the incident is serious or criminal in nature, please contact 111.
  • After you’ve called Police, please update Security of the incident and provide Security with the Police event number.

Thank you for taking the time to read this information and raising your own awareness of being safe on our campuses. We encourage you to share and discuss this topic with ākonga and other kaimahi, to help them to stay safe.
