Measles Outbreak Update

Health NZ | Te Whatu Ora has confirmed an escalating national measles outbreak, with cases reported in Northland, Auckland, Taranaki, Manawatū, Wellington and Nelson. Further cases are expected as the response continues.

Key Information:

  • Measles is highly contagious and can spread before symptoms appear.
  • Symptoms include:
    • High fever (over 38°C), cough, runny nose, sore red eyes
    • Rash starting on the face and spreading to the body, lasting up to a week

If you feel unwell:

  • Stay home and avoid contact with others.
  • Contact Healthline (0800 611 116) or your healthcare provider for advice.
  • If you suspect measles, phone ahead before visiting your doctor, Hauora Māori, or Pacific health provider.

Workplace guidance:

  • Do not come to campus if you suspect exposure or symptoms.
  • Notify your manager immediately.
  • If you have cold or flu symptoms, discuss flexible working options with your manager if this is possible, or take sick leave.
