Kia ora and welcome to this opportunity to professionally develop your knowledge base around te reo Māori and the many aspects associated with the Māori language and customs.
Register now: Te reo Māori for staff
In the course you will:
- Learn how to develop a basic mihimihi structure (acknowledgements) and gain an understanding of the framework
- Gain an understanding of the concepts and customs relating to the Māori language; including the pōhiri process, storytelling, songs and language
When: Tuesdays from 14 July to 15 September, 1 – 2pm
Where: Puukenga, Mt Albert or via Zoom (Zoom link will be sent out each week)
The course is free and led by Chance Taylor – Kura Po Tutor, Maia Māori Centre who says “These classes are fun so please arrive with an open mind and open heart, and a tummy ache for laughter!”
The course starts Tuesday 14 July 2020 from 1.00 – 2.00pm and is weekly through to the end of semester 1. You need to register for te reo Māori for staff as space is limited. It’s also important that you make a commitment to the full semester. The course is not designed as a drop-in format and there is a class size limit, so it’s important that you lock these dates into your calendar through to Tuesday 15 September.
If you attended the semester 1 Te reo Māori for staff, this course will be similar, but you are welcome to attend again if you’d like to reinforce your knowledge.

Kia ora,
I want to attend but am based in the Waikakere campus and on leave this week. Will there be a course offed at Waitakere (not Wednesdays as I teach that day, and not Friday as I am 0.8 so not at work that day)? Or should I plan to participate in the zoom version?
Nga mihi,
Nigel
Tena koe Nigel,
I have sent a Zoom invite for todays class. Unfortunately for classes out west I sent an express of interest earlier in the year for some classes but did not get enough interest
Aku mihi
