Bike Challenge is back! Join the Unitec team.

The 2023 Aotearoa Bike Challenge runs from February 1-28 and is a fun, free competition with loads of great prizes to win, $3000 worth of travel credit, turntables, pizza oven, e-bikes and Lululemon vouchers to name a few.

The Bike Challenge is a great opportunity to discover some of the benefits of life on two wheels. See the city from a new perspective, improve your fitness, transform your work commute, and say goodbye to parking hassles!

Team Unitec has had great success in the past – winning the Auckland Bike Challenge (in our business-size category) four times. It’s not about distance, it’s about giving it a go.

This year, Rob Gambolati volunteered to be our champion. He has just recently started to cycle to work and can’t wait to spread his newfound passion with more of our whanau.

If you’re new to cycling, we’ll help you with finding a ride and we’ll organise fun group rides to increase your confidence. If you are already a rider, taking part and recording your rides will help spread your love of cycling with Unitec whānau and may contribute to evidence used in applications to improve Auckland’s cycling infrastructure.

Try it out – Just 10 minutes on a bike is all it takes…

The best part is that this is NOT about who can do the most kilometres during February. It’s about encouraging as many people as possible to give cycling a go. A 10-minute session on a bike, any time during February is all it takes!

Our team and the competition

Our Sustainability team and Unitec Bike Champions will be supporting you by ensuring there are plenty of opportunities to get on a bike on campus. Go to the Nest calendar to check out all the events, which include regular lunchtime rides utilising our Unitec bike fleet. If you would like a ride organised for your team, get in touch with Maja Zidov.

Remember, it’s not about the kilometres you do, it’s about giving cycling a go!
