It’s Clean Up Week – Keep New Zealand Beautiful!

Being a tidy Kiwi.

It’s Clean Up Week at Keep New Zealand Beautiful – the annual campaign where Kiwis mobilise to pick up litter. Obviously, group gatherings are not a thing in Auckland right now, but there are still many clean-up activities happening in Auckland and elsewhere, with volunteers nationwide working hard to accommodate different alert level settings.

If you’re feeling a bit low, getting out with your bubble whānau and doing what you can to clean up your immediate surrounds will deliver a feel-good boost. After all, the idea of tidying our neighbourhoods is more pertinent now than ever, given that we’re out walking in our 5km zones and appreciating any pockets of nature close by.

Here are five tips for making your 5km zone more beautiful:

  1. Keep safe and be hygienic with the use of masks and gloves
  2. Protect neighbourhood kids by safely removing discarded masks and other potential hazards from the streets
  3. Save our precious Hauraki Gulf and kai moana from toxic pollution by collecting cigarette butts and plastic waste before they wash into stormwater drains
  4. Involve your own kids in the #LitterLessCampaign – calling on young New Zealanders to join the global effort to reduce pollution.
  5. Inspire others by posting a picture on Insta or your community Facebook page, tagging @keepnewzealandbeautiful on Instagram or @KeepNZBeautiful on Facebook

So much more than just a retro t-shirt or catchy saying from the 70s – the charity Keep New Zealand Beautiful is doing awesome things across Aotearoa every day, inspiring others to help take care of our beautiful country.
