Important message on transferring your employment to MIT and Unitec

Kia ora koutou,

Hope you’re having a great week.

As you know, MIT and Unitec are becoming a single, independent provider of vocational education and training for Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland from 1 January 2026.

To prepare for this important change, we are transferring all employment agreements from our current employer — the New Zealand Institute of Skills & Technology (NZIST, formerly Te Pūkenga) — to the new organisation.

We understand many kaimahi ‘staff’ will be taking a well-earned break over summer, so it’s important we complete this process before the holiday period.

What to expect:

  • You’ll receive a Letter of Offer from MIT and Unitec, as a single entity provider.
  • By signing and returning it, you’ll be agreeing to transfer your employment to the new organisation from 1 January 2026.
  • Your remuneration, terms and conditions will remain the same.

Our People and Culture team is currently finalising the process, and you can expect to receive your letter around late November to early December.

It is expected the letters will be released in tranches over several days.

Ngā mihi nui,
