Collecting equipment from campus for your home workstation

The ELT has agreed to allow staff to take office equipment home, to help with teaching and other business critical functions.

Some equipment is easily transported and set up, while other items are at higher risk of being damaged, or need specialist set up. The list below outlines what can and cannot be temporarily relocated offsite.

Please download and complete our Equipment Relocation Request Form; this ensures you have permission from your HoS or Director, and that you accept the responsibility of the assets in your care and the possible cost of replacement should these assets not be returned.

What can be taken home from your existing on-campus workstation:

  • Chair
  • Footstool
  • Laptop
  • Stand for laptop
  • Monitor – on stand only. Monitors fixed to arms on desks must not be removed as these require significant work to dismantle and relocate.
  • Docking station
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • Headset
  • Webcams (excluding those set up in classrooms)
  • Any associated cables and adaptors which have already been provided at your desk to enable the above equipment to operate.

Unitec will not supply duplicate equipment to set up both at-home and at-work stations – you will need to transport items to and from work depending on where you are based.

What cannot be taken home:

  • Printer
  • Desktop workstation
  • Projector
  • Desk

Any of the approved equipment may, with the approval of your Head of School or Director be temporarily transferred to your home.

Please use the Equipment Relocation Request Form.

Your responsibilities

Our equipment is valuable and can require some technical knowledge to set up. Please read the below guidelines around taking equipment home:

Our IT and Infrastructure teams will not be available to support with collection, transit or set up of equipment. If you’d like to collect equipment to take home, you will need to come on site to disconnect and collect the items, safely and securely transit them and independently reconnect at their home. Please observe our current guidelines while on campus, and only stay as long as you need to. Wear a mask and tag in.

If, for Health and Safety reasons, you are not able to collect these items yourself please contact your Business Administrator, HoS or Director regarding the assistance you need to help you with the collection of these items. However, you will still need to set this up at home.

Schools and Departments will take full responsibility for the co-ordination of any IT equipment being transferred to a staff member’s residence and the return of these devices to campus. Any lost items incurring replacement will be charged to the associated School or Department.

If you have any questions about taking equipment home, please contact your HoS or Director.
