Social Club Christmas bash, featuring Ashley Bloomfield

Ashley Bloomfield making an appearance at the Social Club Christmas party

The Unitec Social club ended the year with a bang, at their annual Christmas party. The Christmas party is one of four Social Club events held throughout the year – read more about the club on their page. Everyone is welcome to join and attend any or all of the events.

The theme for the end of the year party was ‘Survivor’, inspired by the year we’ve experienced through the COVID-19 pandemic. Held on-campus to avoid any last-minute venue cancellations, there were plenty of food, drinks, and places to chill or dance, as well as the all-important games that had everyone laughing hard!

Special Guest Ashley Bloomfield attended as the honorary guest – check out the life-size cardboard cut-out of Mr Bloomfield, who provided a very popular photo opportunity!

A bit more about the Social Club

The Club runs four functions a year where you can get together with your work colleagues to socialise and get to know each other, sometimes with family/kids, sometimes without. The four events usually cover the categories of culture, family friendly, brainy/quiz and end-of-year knees up. When you join, you agree to a small amount being deducted from your regular pay, giving you full entry to all of the events.

However, everyone is welcome – non-members who would rather not commit to the full year can head along to the events for a one-off fee.

The club is member-led, run by staff for staff. Currently the organising committee is just three staff members and they welcome more volunteers to share the load of event organisation.
