Junk Free June

‘Junk Free’ as in food that we know is not good for our health, but we crave and consume anyway? Or are we talking the piles of stuff at home needing to be organised, repaired, donated, or thrown away?

Junk Free campaign is the opportunity to do something about both of those things.

During winter our instincts encourage us to hunker down for hibernation and spend more times indoors. While there, let’s use our time wisely to declutter our homes and find healthy ways to satisfy our food cravings.

Send in your questions for a nutritionist

Have a think about your relationship with food. What knowledge are you already putting into practice that works for you? What stops you from eating healthier? What would you like to learn more about? What nutritional tips have you heard that confuse you or perhaps even contradict each other?

Please email connect@unitec.ac.nz with your questions. We are in the process of organizing a webinar with expert nutritionist and would like your questions to guide their talk.

Plan to declutter > winter wonder the clutter

  • Walk through your home and identify clutter problem spots like your closet, kitchen cabinets, or desk. Before you start sorting through your stuff, prepare three zones: repair, donate, or throw away. This could be in your guest room or hallway.
  • Find your why. For example, do you want to spend less time cleaning, less money on things you don’t need? Do you want fewer things distracting you or do you want more space for play, exercise, or even your own art studio? It could even be because you don’t know what to do next and you think space will give you clarity (it will).
  • Get warmed up for the sorting phase. Locate 12 items to throw away, 12 to donate, and 12 to be returned to their proper home.
