Join in – a fun, free and social event!

Thinking about getting back on a bike? Looking for a New Year individual challenge?

The 2023 Aotearoa Bike Challenge is now on this month, from Feb 1-28.

Bike Challenge is a great opportunity to see the city from a new perspective and discover life on two wheels.

This event is for everyone whether you’re new to cycling, ride regularly or need the motivation to get back on your bike. Sign up to enjoy events and activities, bikes to borrow, newbies coaching, awesome prizes and fun!

Check the Nest events calendar regularly to see what’s on and what’s coming up.

How to take part…

  • Register: Go to www.lovetoride.net > Register. Select Unitec as the organisation and then your department (you can create a new department if necessary)
  • Ride a bike: Anywhere, anytime for at least 10 minutes during February
  • Record your ride on the site and encourage your friends
  • Reward yourself and your friends by winning prizes!

If you don’t have your own bike, its no problem…

Mt Albert: We’ve got three push bikes and three e-bikes for you to choose from and everything else you need to get going including riding gear, locks and pumps.

Bikes can be booked on your Outlook calendar (scheduling assistant > add attendees > 110 Bike 1 to 3) or you can simply drop into B110 reception and sign them out. For anything else, i.e. group rides, e-bike trials, suggestions or borrowing longer term, contact oneplanet@unitec.ac.nz

Waitākere:
We got the bikes ready for you but are still missing someone to look after them. Please get in touch with oneplanet@unitec.ac.nz with suggestions and/or to organise group rides in meanwhile.

Team Unitec points

Organisational workplace points are simple – it’s the sum total of all the points earned by their members.

Unitec previously won the Auckland Bike Challenge (in our business-size category) three times! So here’s how to contribute to building our points:

  • Record  points – Just 10 minutes (approx. 3 km) is all you need to do to register points, so ride to the dairy, around the block or local park, or grab a Unitec pool bike and do a lunch time cruise
  • We also get points for the number of trips you do, so a couple of rides a week really helps, including just 10 minute cruises!
  • We get extra points for every new cyclist (anyone who hasn’t ridden a bike in last 12 months and creates a new account)
  • If someone encouraged you to register then make sure you log them as your ‘encourager’ on the site as that also earns us points! A prompt for this will come up when you sign-up and log your first ride
