Carparking at Mt Albert and Waitākere campus

Please visit our website for all up-to-date information on parking including how to pay with the app, locations of payment machines and how parking will be enforced.

To ensure ongoing accuracy we are using the website as our one source of truth instead of duplicating information. Q&A for staff is below.

Questions and answers…

How can we book visitor car parks: Process for STAFF

There are nine visitor car parks available outside Building 111. Visitor carparks are bookable spaces that staff can book themselves following the same process as meeting rooms.  This can be done by setting up an appointment request in Outlook and selecting an available carparking space as per the address book image below.

Please note: these visitor carparks are registered in the Outlook address book under 110-Parking.

Can we buy a monthly/annual pass or concession card?

At this stage we are unable to introduce monthly or yearly passes until we understand level of demand for paid carparking as this will disadvantage those that can’t afford to pay in advance.

Do we still need staff and student car stickers?

Do staff and students still need parking stickers on cars?
Yes, stickers will still be required, to ensure our limited parking is accessed only by staff and students.
New staff and students will need to get a sticker. We’ll allow a few weeks at the start of semester to allow people to get their stickers.
Students need to come to Student Central. Staff please contact Security.

How can we use the car pooling carparks?

We have some car parks reserved for staff or students carpooling together. You will need to display a carpooling sticker in your car. To get your carpooling sticker, email the Sustainability Team at at connect@unitec.ac.nz and provide:

  • your name and your Student or Staff ID number and
  • the name and ID number for everyone you are carpooling with

If you don’t have a carpooling buddy yet, get in touch anyway. Please include detail about your commute (i.e. what suburb you travel from and what days and times you need to be on campus) and our Sustainability manager will put you in touch with some possible matches.

What will the revenue from the carparking charges be used for?

We’ll be doing regular reviews of demand and revenue to ensure we have the balance right.

Currently, revenue from our carpark collection does not cover the financial obligations of having carparks at Mt Albert campus, but does contribute to the costs at Waitākere.

Revenue will be used to ensure ongoing maintenance of carparks, taking into account the increased usage of these as we consolidate our campus. As well as this, we intend to divert more funds towards sustainability options that encourage other commute options, such as end of trip facilities for bikers, ride sharing initiatives etc.

We will allocate budget for ongoing maintenance and upgrades of initiatives that support sustainable transport, such as providing good showers, plenty of bike parking areas and ride sharing initiatives.

All of our revenue will go back to Unitec. Every dollar we earn (and more) is invested back into improving and upgrading our facilities and providing tools that support our ākonga to achieve better outcomes.

Does the Flexible Working Policy support the car parking plan?

To help with demand on our carparking, the flexible working policy remains in place. Please work with your manager to discuss how it can apply to you.

How can we ensure staff and students are safe if they’re walking further to get to campus?

Staff and students are encouraged to take all the necessary safety measures if they feel unsafe walking to their cars. This applies as much on campus as it does off campus and includes calling Security to walk you to your car, walking with a companion, or in an emergency situation, calling the Police.

Will rates increase in the future?

Unitec’s existing Traffic Safety and Parking Policy states that we “may, from time to time, determine parking fees.” It is envisioned that parking fees will be reviewed periodically to align with the ever-changing factors at play.

Will new carparks be provided in the future?

At this stage, there are no concrete plans for new carparks as our Infrastructure and Commercial teams are working on the consolidation of our Mt Albert campus. However, we will continue to look to the future in terms of our long-term maintenance plans, building upgrades, and potential carpark options.
