Schools leaders join SLT

A move to increase the voice our schools and academic teams have has seen two additional appointments made to Senior Leadership Team.

Pip Schollum-Manase and Chris King

The new members are Pip Schollum-Manase who is General Manager – Schools at MIT and Chris King, Director – Schools and Performance at Unitec.

“I’m glad to welcome Pip and Chris to the team,” say Deputy Chief Executive – Academic, Prof Martin Carroll.

“They both have a clear understanding of the great work our teaching teams do every day, as well as how we can best support them to continue to deliver on our core purpose providing quality learning experiences for ākonga and communities.”

Originally from Puhoi, Pip has been with MIT for more than twenty years, starting as maternity cover in the then-institute’s International Team.

This led to a permanent position as a Market Manager, recruiting ākonga from across the Pacific, Japan, Korea and Russia.

From International, Ms Schollum-Manase worked as Business Development Manager with Tech Park, MIT’s trades and engineering campus, before being seconded to take up the role of General Manager with the campus.

“For me, joining SLT is about advocating for our Heads of School and delivery for learners. Learners come first. They are our reason for functioning,” Pip says.

Chris King has worked at Unitec since starting as a lecturer with School of English and Applied Linguistics in 2003.

During this time, Chris has served as a Senior Lecturer, Research Chair, Head of School and Director of Schools.

“Our appointments are about adding to the academic voice, the voice of schools and teaching teams,” he says.

“I’m looking forward to remit and agency progressively coming back from Te Pūkenga so we can focus on the True North of our mahi, meeting needs of ākonga and community stakeholders across industry and iwi.”

MIT and Unitec have had a joint Senior Leadership since 2020.
