Real Estate Information session garners keen interest

Unitec-Te Pūkenga School of Applied Business recently organised information sessions for the  New Zealand Certificate in Real Estate Salesperson (level 4), which saw a diverse group of people from all walks of life attending to gain insights into the credential.

There are many reasons to be excited by a real estate career right now, says Applied Business lecturer Richard Harford. Although property prices have been falling, it is at a slower rate than before.

“This means that the market may be bottoming out soon, if it hasn’t already. As the market stabilises, there will be a greater need for skilled real estate professionals.

“More migrants coming into New Zealand is also contributing to the growth of the real estate market. Although the increase isn’t massive, it’s a positive sign that more buyers will be entering the market. This creates opportunities for real estate agents to build their networks and make connections.

“Interest rates also play a significant role in the real estate market. Many economic commentators believe that interest rates are at or near their peak. As interest rates stabilise or even decrease, buyers may be more inclined to invest in properties. This change in the market will create a demand for knowledgeable real estate agents who can help clients navigate the process.

“Another positive sign for the industry is agents are reporting more listings are coming to the market. This increase in inventory provides real estate professionals with a broader range of properties to present to their clients. With more listings to choose from, agents have a better chance of finding the perfect fit for each buyer.

“The upcoming general elections may cause some people to feel jittery about becoming real estate agents, however, this uncertainty only reinforces the importance of having well-informed agents who can guide clients through the process. Those who complete their qualifications and obtain their licenses will be in a prime position to enter the industry and refine their skills, just in time for a return to more normal market conditions.”

All these factors mean it is a great time for people to take up the Certificate, Richard says.

“With the market showing signs of recovery, and agencies seeking fresh talent, those who complete the New Zealand Certificate will be well-positioned for success.”
