Unitec was awash with pink on Friday, to celebrate Pink Shirt Day.
The Pink Shirt Day organisation says “Celebrated annually around the globe, Pink Shirt Day began in Canada in 2007 when two students took a stand against homophobic bullying, after a peer was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. In Aotearoa, Pink Shirt Day aims to create schools, workplaces and communities where all people feel safe, valued and respected.”
Thanks to everyone who showed up in your pink finery, to take a stand against bullying and spread aroha and kindness.
The winning team…
The winner of the Pink Shirt Day team competition was the Student Support and Scholarships team! They win a $50 voucher for a team morning tea.
Melinda Jenkins, Student Support Coordinator and Pink Shirt Day judge said “We had a fantastic response to Pink Shirt Day this year, with heaps of teams sending through photos of their team dressed in pink to support the cause. It was a tough job judging all the great entries – so much creativity! We chose the Student Support & Scholarships team because of the team spirit, energy, and effort they displayed, which relates to the slogan “There’s no ‘I’ in TEAM OR STUDENT SUPPORT!”
Check out the photos submitted by our staff teams – awesome work everyone!
It was also great to see so many of our students getting behind Pink Shirt Day, supported by our Student Council. Check out Unitec’s Instagram:
