Te Noho Kotahitanga – Our values

Te Noho Kotahitanga is our partnership between Māori and pākehā, and the principles of the values that we live by as an organisation. These values are fundamental to everything we do – they are at the very centre of our purpose, as stated in Manaakitia te Rito – our Renewal Strategy. Led by Te Noho Kotahitanga we manaaki the success of our learners and communities.

Send a values card: Show your appreciation for a colleague who embodies our values

Our  values cards are a great way to recognise people who are living and breathing our Te Noho Kotahitanga values. The cards below are ‘writable’ so type in your message on the back, save it, then attach and email it to the person you want to recognise – you’ll make their day! Or you can get a hard copy of the card, write on the back and share it in person.

  • Kaitiakitanga – Guardianship
Guardianship reflects all aspects of what we do, particularly knowledge/processes we are sharing and how we deliver them
  •  Mahi KotahitangaCo-operation
A spirit of generosity and co-operation will guide all our actions
  • Ngākau Māhaki – Respect
Valuing everyone’s heritage and customs, current needs and future aspirations
  • Rangatiratanga – Authority and responsibility
Providing authority for others to lead responsibly and with obligation to all
  • Wakaritenga – Legitimacy
Legitimising all voices and needs through equitable resourcing and access

Ideas for using the values cards:

  • Give a card to a colleague or team, or external partner, that you’ve seen truly demonstrating our values in action – make sure you have some copies of the cards in your workspace so they are on hand to create a message of appreciation -see below re accessing a supply of cards for your workplace
  • Set up a regular slot in your team meetings for recognition; encourage team members to fill out cards beforehand and hand them out in your meeting
  • Display any cards you’ve been given, proudly! They are acknowledgement from your peers that they have had a great values-based experience working with you. and they can be referenced as positive feedback at your annual Performance Partnering review
  • Our values cards can also be used as evidence when completing your Living Te Noho Kotahitanga badge requirement

Where to get values cards

When we are back on campus: You can get a supply of values cards from Reception at Building 110, there will also be cards across both campuses in common staff areas, and you can email learnanddevelop@unitec.ac.nz to have cards delivered to you.
