OnzO bikes now on campus + final 3 days of the Bike Challenge – we’re leading!

OnzO bikes – easy to use, convenient and inexpensive!
The black and yellow bikes that you’ve seen randomly scattered across Auckland City are now available on campus, a great additional resource to our bike fleet.

OnzO is a bike share concept that is easy to use and once you’ve set up your account they’re a great way to get around campus, to the shops or even to ride home.

To get spinning, just download the app to your phone and pay the NZ$9.99 one-off deposit (this bond is refundable if you choose to no longer keep your registration open). Once you’ve registered the cost is 25 cents per 15 minutes of hire time – you’re good to go, anywhere.

Each bike is equipped with a cycle helmet but sometimes these get ‘misplaced’. Please do not use a bike without a helmet, find one that does have a helmet and for the safety of other ‘bike sharers’ make sure you lock the helmet back under the seat after each ride.

Once you’ve done your ride, make sure you leave the bike in an easy to find, convenient place for the next user, near public transport, in a bike rack or on a berm, but not on private property – don’t risk people wandering into your backyard to track down a bike!

If you think you’re going to make use of the OnzO bikes regularly then how about buying your own helmet, the Warehouse sells a huge range that start from $18.00 and they all meet New Zealand safety standards.

Congratulations everyone for helping us to get to first place in the Auckland competition! There’s just three days to go so we need to keep riding as our key competitor is just 20 rides behind.

Don’t forget you can register any ride in February whether it was last weekend or two weeks ago. And it doesn’t matter what day or whether it was for fun or to get to work. Please do log your rides as single trips as this earns more points e.g. a trip to the dairy and back is two rides.

And if you haven’t been for ride yet, it’s not too late to contribute to our entry in the Auckland Bike Challenge. We’re only just in first place so any rides you do will help keep us in the #1 slot for the third year in a row!

Every new rider who goes for a spin – once registered record your ride – helps increase our overall workplace percentage, so check out your options –

If you’re already riding, don’t forget that you have until midnight Wednesday 28 February 2018 to squeeze in some more rides and to log them. Every trip you log increases YOUR chance to win a prize.

Kirsten Petersen from Corporate Communications/Events was one of many staff who was inspired to give riding another go thanks to the Bike Challenge! On her first ride out in decades, on a pool bike, she headed up to Pt Chevalier shops to run some errands, enjoyed it so much that she is now keen to get her own bike asap!

Good job everyone! Keep riding and logging!
