Ngā Pū Kōrero o Āpōpō Tāmaki Makaurau 2024 – regional te reo Māori speech competition Thursday 1 August

Ngā Pū Kōrero o Āpōpō Tāmaki Makaurau- 2024 Whakataetae a Rohe, the regional te reo Māori speech competition is being held again this year at Te Noho Kotahitanga marae from 9am on Thursday 1 August

This event is hosted by Tuia te Waiora, a Māori Womens Welfare League branch based at Te Noho Kotahitanga marae, as well as the Tāmaki Makaurau MWWL Regional Council.

Rangatahi from Kura Kaupapa Māori, and Wharekura, from within the Tāmaki Makaurau region will compete in 6 sections beginning with the junior section of 10-12 years of age, through to the senior section 16-18 years. The winners of each section will travel to the National competition being held in October at Turangawaewae marae, Waikato.

The National theme for this year is:

“Amohia ake te Ora o te Iwi, Ka puta ki te Whei Ao, ki te Ao Marama”

This whakatauākī is a call to action, urging us to strive for prosperity and enlightenment, ensuring that te reo and tikanga Māori continue to flourish, to uplift, and to safeguard the well-being of generations, now and into the future.
