Māori Pre-Police course to start in Semester 2

A new pre-police programme tailored specifically for Māori will start next Semester. The agreement was signed last week and is a collaboration between Unitec, NZ Police Recruitment and Auckland City Police.

This weekend around 60 people who have all previously trialled for, but missed out on selection in the Police College, will take part in selection testing for the first Māori Pre-Police course. Twenty people will be selected for the 16-week night course, which involves around six hours’ study each week. The participants will benefit from mentoring from Auckland City Police, as well as physical training and strategies to develop their confidence.

Based closely on the existing successful Pasifika Pre-Police course, which has been running for 15 years, the Māori course is an exciting addition to our Police training programme.
