It’s just under six weeks until our Staff Excellence Awards 2025, so here’s the skinny on everything you need to know:
Nominations close this Sunday, 19 October
Nominations are up on last year, which is great news, but we’d still love to get more. You can submit a nomination here any time before midnight on Sunday. Please just take the time to read the criteria for each category and ensure your submission reflects this.
Theme: Culturae: From Roots to Runway
The theme for this year’s event is a celebration of the diverse range of cultures we have here at Unitec.
Culturae draws inspiration from the Latin word for culture and evokes a fusion of culture and aura — the essence and energy that define who we are.
The phrase From Roots to Runway symbolises that transformation: how culture, identity and creativity evolve from where we come from, to how we present ourselves to the world.
The theme celebrates the journey of culture — from our roots, traditions and personal heritage to the vibrant, creative ways we express ourselves today. It’s about authenticity, pride and presence, showcasing the aura that shines when our diverse backgrounds and talents come together.
The event will provide a stage for that celebration, where every story, every achievement and every staff member adds something unique to our shared Unitec experience.
- What do I wear?
The most important question! You’re all encouraged to wear your own cultural or traditional dress. If you don’t have one or if it’s not easily accessible, you’re welcome to wear traditional dress from another culture. Chat to your colleagues, friends, neighbours, family – we’re sure you’ll be able to pull something together!
We want everyone to feel free to embrace and experience other cultures, so you have a host to choose from!
- Timing and Registration
We’ll be sending out information on the registration process in the coming weeks, but as with past Staff Awards events, you’ll need to register your attendance in advance. You can also specify any dietary requirements on the registration form. Doors open from 9:30AM on Thursday, 27 November, and will wrap up at 3PM. We’ll have a shuttle service available to and from our Waitākere campus. Lunch and refreshments will be served as part of the event.
