Keep yourselves and your whanau safe this summer

It’s nearly here! Our summer break is just a few days away; it’s a chance to connect with whanau and friends and enjoy our (mostly) hot summer.

While it’s great to get into the ‘holiday spirit’ and experience what our beautiful country has to offer, it’s also important to keep yourselves and your whanau safe.

Here are a few reminders:

1. Swim between the flags and keep small children within arm’s reach at the beach and in the pool. Drowning statistics are very high in New Zealand. Read more about staying safe in the water on Erin Hughes’ (our resident lifeguard) Yammer post.
2. Always wear a life jacket when fishing off the rocks or boating.
3. Drink alcohol responsibly: serve food as well as non-alcoholic drinks, and don’t drink and drive.
4. Stay food safe: wash your hands, keep raw and cooked meat separate and reheat meals to steaming hot. Clean, cook, cover and chill!
5. Buy sunscreen before you head away on holiday, apply before hitting the beach and keep it topped up every two or three hours and don’t forget a hat!

Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday and a fantastic 2019!
