If you’re new to cycling we’ll help you with finding a ride and we’ll organise fun group rides to increase your confidence. If you are already a rider, taking part and recording your rides will help spread your love of cycling with Unitec whanau and may contribute to evidence used in applications to improve Auckland’s cycling infrastructure.

Events and Communications Business Partner Paul Hays tried out the e-bike last February. Check out the smile on his dial!

Try it out – Just 10 minutes on a bike is all it takes…

The best part is that this is NOT about who can do the most kilometres during February. It’s about encouraging as many people as possible to give cycling a go. A 10-minute session on a bike, any time during February is all it takes!

Our team and the competition

It’s also a competition so there are some amazing prizes to be won! There are organisations, big and small, across Aotearoa signing up to the Bike Challenge.

Our Sustainability team and Unitec Bike Champions will be supporting you by ensuring there are plenty of opportunities to get on a bike on campus. Go to the Nest calendar to check out all the events, which will include regular lunchtime rides utilising our Unitec bike fleet, a Burgers & Bikes social, plus e-bikes for you to try out.  Check out the Nest page for everything you need to know, including a competition to win a fitbit!

Remember, it’s not about the kilometres you do, it’s about giving cycling a go!

The Auckland Bike Challenge is run by Auckland Transport. This year the Bike Challenge is supporting Variety – the Children’s Charity. Variety supports disadvantaged children, so if you want to, you can use your participation in the event to help raise funds for Kiwi kids in need with a new bikes and helmets.
