Cole Briggs

Meet Cole Briggs who is passionate about climate change and clean waterways, is a keen cricket player and whose favourite movie character is Wolverine…

What is your role?
I’ve just joined United as a Research assistant in EAS working with Dr Terri-Ann Berry. I’m enjoying the concept of Embodied energy and how much this could make a difference to climate change in the future. It’s great to work towards something with an end goal of a cleaner planet. There’s also a prospect of working with plastic waste in waterways in Auckland. Something I am very passionate about.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
I absolutely love camping around New Zealand, especially up at Spirits Bay (top of the North Island) or at Port Jackson on the coromandel. I also love kayak fishing and playing cricket.

Where did you grow up and what’s interesting about that place?
I was born in South Africa, in Nelspruit. My first house was right outside a game park so being in nature has been a massive part of my life. Since moving to New Zealand I have lived on the North Shore and enjoy the beaches as much as I can.

Wolverine

What is you favourite book or movie? Why?
Tough one between X-Men and Lord of the Rings.  Absolutely love everything about both of them. Wolverine is my favourite character of all time.

Partner you want to brag about?
My partner is a qualified optometrist!

Tell us an achievement out of work that you’re proud of.
Playing first class cricket and completing my bachelors degree in Biology and Environmental science. Two very big achievements of mine which I’m really proud of.

Is there a song that reminds you of a significant time in your life?
Everlong by Foo Fighters – I have seen it played live twice and it’s an absolute beauty for any occasion (gym, party, driving). Highly recommend.

Best concert you’ve ever been to?
J.Cole concert takes the cake. Unbelievable atmosphere and electric energy. Can’t wait to see him again.

What’s your favourite food or signature dish?
Basic – but a simple bbq, satay chicken kebab. My favourite and my signature dish all in one!

Who do you most admire and what is it about them that makes them special?
My Mum and Dad are my role models. Very blessed to have such amazing people in my life.
