Education Minister announces consultation on Unitec’s governance

The Education Minister Chris Hipkins has announced that the TEC will be opening consultation on the possibility of dissolving Unitec’s council and appointing a commissioner in its place. You can read his statement here.

The consultation has been prompted by the TEC’s concerns with our financial situation, and the appointment of a commissioner will give the Government stronger oversight of our operations.

The TEC is now inviting feedback on the proposal for a 5-day period.

In his message, the Minister has said that the Government is committed to ensuring top quality education and training is available at Unitec and they have confirmed that we are making good progress in our teaching and learning delivery.

The ELT is looking forward to working more closely with the TEC on our shared objective of returning Unitec to profitability. Merran is happy to answer any questions so please send them to chiefexecutive@unitec.ac.nz. You can also contribute to the consultation process by emailing your submission to MCO@tec.govt.nz.
