Dance Showcase 2018 Celebrated

Dance Showcase 2018 previewed last night to rapturous audience applause, featuring a high-calibre line up of some of the country’s best contemporary choreographers and NZ’s brightest dance students.

Dance Showcase is a celebration of the work of our graduating Contemporary Dance students in Creative Industries, which for the first time this year included the first cohort of students from the Beijing Dance Academy (BDA). Unitec’s new co-delivered programme with BDA presented a new work created for them by NZ dance icon Michael Parmenter.

Unitec Dance Alumni Bianca Hyslop, Jessie McCall, Eddie Elliott and Tamsyn Russell worked with a range of students on different works, including the moving Powhiri, which was designed to welcome all friends and family into the space and especially honoured the third year students who are about to enter their next stage in life.

Renowned choreographers Sarah Foster-Sproull and Joshua Cesan also worked with graduating students on powerful pieces.

Dance Showcase 2018 is on at the Raye Freedman Arts Centre in Epsom and finishes on Sunday, 18 November.  Tickets are available via iTICKET.

Fantastic show!!! Well done to all of the team. I’m glad it was dark so you couldn’t see the tears in the audience’s eyes for the very moving Powhiri. I would encourage all staff to go to this amazing show to witness our incredible students in action.

I had the privilege of experiencing the Dance Showcase for the closing night – there are not enough words to describe the depth of pride I have for the students, the staff of Creative Industries and all involved in each of the pieces. What a night! Congratulations all.
