Coronavirus: Update 25 February – Further extension on travel restrictions

Further extension on travel restrictions

The NZ Government yesterday announced that temporary restrictions on travel from or via China will remain in place as a precautionary measure to protect against the spread of coronavirus.  The restrictions, which prevent foreign nationals travelling from, or transiting through, mainland China from entering New Zealand have been extended for a further eight days from Monday, 24 February. This position will be reviewed every 48 hours and the Government will decide on or before 3 March whether the travel restrictions need to remain in place. Please note there have been no confirmed cases of coronavirus in New Zealand to date.

New Zealand citizens, permanent residents and their immediate family returning to New Zealand will continue to be able to enter, but are being told to self-isolate for 14 days upon their return.

Please see link to further information and updates on the New Zealand Immigration website.

We continue to be in regular contact with our International students and others who have been affected by the travel restrictions. Students who have been impacted will have heard from their lecturers welcoming them to their Moodle course content for this semester, and are being encouraged to work through and engage with their course materials and readings. If you hear of any International students wanting advice on visas, please refer them to this information sheet issued by New Zealand Immigration.

We are making anti-bacterial wipes available to students and staff in our computer labs, and hand sanitizer stations are available wherever possible at both campuses; supplies remain limited globally. We recommend washing your hands with soap and drying thoroughly. If you or any of your students have any immediate health concerns, please contact Te Puna Waiora – either in person or by calling 0800 10 85 10.

We continue to encourage you to check out the official sites, including Ministry of Health and World Health Organization, if you’re seeking further information on the virus and precautionary measures.
