It’s an exciting time for the Unitec Small Animal Unit (USAU) – they’ve moved to a new home in B155-156! The new space is fantastic for the animals, which include rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, turtles and lizards, and the team is looking forward to welcoming students this year.

The animal unit needs a new name – send your ideas in!

The new animal unit needs a name, something that reflects the animal care, husbandry, ethical (non-invasive) research, welfare and behaviour teaching that goes on throughout the year.

If you have any suggestions, please email Laura Harvey or post them in the comment section below, by Friday 8 February, 2019.

Four rabbits – Otto, Rosa, Nibbles and Quince – call this enclosure home

The person who submits the winning entry will win a tour of the unit and a dozen fresh eggs from the resident chickens.

Thanks to all those that put forth name suggestions, here, on Yammer and via email. We have settled on a combination of various suggestions. Te Puna Kararehe – Animal Behaviour and Husbandry Centre. You have hopefully seen the event listing for a open day from 11.30am-1pm on Monday 18th for all staff to come and visit the new space – we hope to see you there.
