Colourful Ei Katu workshops celebrate Cook Islands Language Week at Unitec

Kaimahi and ākonga celebrated Epetoma o te reo Māori Kuki ‘Āirani – Cook Islands Language Week – at Unitec last week with Ei Katu (floral head piece or headdress) making workshops at both campuses.

The theme this year was Ātui’ia au ki te vaka o tōku matakeinanga – connect me to the canoe of my tribe.’

The workshops were organised by the Pacific Centre with the support of the USC Pacific representative.

Those who took part were encouraged to be creative and vibrant in the way each ei katu was constructed, as you can see from the photos. It was also a great opportunity to catch up and celebrate the language, culture and stories of Kuki ‘Airani kōpū tangata (whānau).
